Abuja Airport Temporarily Shutdown, Hundreds of Passengers Stranded

The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, has been temporarily shut as planes have been prevented from taking off or landing.

This has left hundreds of passengers stranded at the airport. reports reaching us indicates that there was a problem with the runway, which has lead to the temporary suspension of flights into Abuja to facilitate evacuation efforts to clear the runway.

Passengers travelling to Abuja from Lagos, Port- Harcourt and so on have also had their flights delayed.

The shutdown is said to be as a result of a Saudi Arabian B747 cargo aircraft which veered off after landing in Abuja last night at the maneuvering area of the runway and ran into a maintenance area and stopped.
